    Course Content and Structure

    To be awarded the qualification 11245NAT Certificate IV in TESOL, competency must be achieved in 12 units of competency, consisting of 11 core units and 1 elective unit.

    NAT11245008 Apply a range of TESOL methodologies

    NAT11245009 Assist learners prepare for English language tests

    NAT11245010 Use Computer Assisted Language Learning to assist learners

    NAT11245011 Develop and apply knowledge of cultural factors affecting TESOL teachers

    NAT11245012 Use creative strategies to assist children to learn English

    Course Duration

    The recommended course duration is 40 weeks. However we recognise that some learners will need a longer (and some less) time.

    The course is self-directed online at your own pace with trainer support through distance learning. Although the course duration is flexible, learners are required to submit work regularly at least every 2 months. Non-activity (defined as no work submission for periods of greater than 2 months) requires special dispensation and may be granted at the discretion of Sydney Higher Education Institute. Requests for extensions to the 2 month non-activity period must be made in writing and received by Sydney Higher Education Institute via emailing the Institute Registrar on admin@sydneyinstitute.org.

    Sydney Higher Education Institute may also choose to cancel an enrolment if the training schedule is not maintained as directed by the trainer and no agreement for alteration to the schedule has been reached, or where the candidate does not respond to attempts to be contacted. Sydney Higher Education Institute will make every effort to maintain contact with the participant but does not accept liability in instances where the participant does not respond to attempts to make contact.

    Credit Transfer (CT)

    You are able to claim a Credit Transfer for a unit if you have already been granted competence by an RTO in that unit. When claiming a Credit Transfer, you must present your original Certificate or Statement of Attainment showing the unit code and title. If the unit code and title do not match exactly, you may apply for RPL for that unit.

    Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

    RPL is available for individual units where you feel that you have gained the skills and knowledge required for that unit through work and life skills but have not had these formally recognised or where you hold a formal qualification that has been superseded and updated. Should you wish to apply for RPL for any of the above units you will be provided with an RPL kit explaining the process and outlining the evidence you will need to provide.

    Unique Student Identifier (USI) Number

    If you are enrolling in any accredited training, all Australian students or students studying in Australia must have a USI. However, if you are an international student studying offshore do NOT need to obtain a USI

    Pre-Requisites

    All learners require the ability to read, write and speak in English fluently and accurately. For native English speakers, these abilities are checked via a thorough one-on-one interview and completion of a formal written appiication form.

    Non-native speakers are required to have an International English Language Testing System {IELTS) score of al least 6.5 (Competent user) or equivalent grading. This means they can speak at length wilh minimal loss of coherence and minimal mispronunciation, they possess a wide enough vocabulary to discuss topics at length, they paraphrase Successfully, frequently produce error-free sentences, and be understood throughout.

    It is recommended entrants have completed senior high school or are mature learners.
